The Promise of An Advocate

Dear friends, at the intense moment of departure, there is no better consoling promise than the promise of an advocate. The work of an advocate is to plead the cause of another especially at the moment of trial or challenge. He is to guide, counsel and empower his client. His function is informed by his deeper knowledge and power. Jesus is our Advocate. He has equally promised his beloved ones another advocate (Holy Spirit) that will be with them forever. Like Philip, the Holy Spirit led us in our different mission that produces the Joy of the Gospel. It is a “joy that fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus. Such joy set free from sin, sorrow, inner emptiness and loneliness. Such Joy is constantly born anew” (Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium). May God grant us the courage to open up to the Holy Spirit our Advocate. Happy Sunday
